Banana Bart

This is Bart. Bart meant a lot to many people. She was laid to rest in October, at the age of 36, due to a tumor growing in her nasal cavity. She belonged to my trainer, and in her prime, was one of the best horses she ever had.

WHEW. Enough with the heavy. When I found out where her future was heading, I set off to do something special. This project is important to me not only because it was a way to honor her memory, but I knew that my trainer deserved to see her favorite horse all done up one last time. These images were taken in secret right under her nose with the help of a couple friends. I’m grateful for it. Not only because of their turn out, but because this was the first time I ever attempted to photograph a horse.

I am awfully proud of this set, I hope you enjoy them as well!

Fruit And Products Part 1: Lemons

Lately I have been trying to expand my product and commercial side of my website since I have less images inside that book on my website.

What better way to start a new project than by using my favorite color as a base?! In this series of fruit and products, I really experimented with duo color backgrounds, which is something new to me.

I genuinely had fun doing these, and I hope you enjoy them. Let me know what you think!

Watch Product

I have been trying to add more images to my product side of my portfolio lately, These images of the watch were really fun to do. When I was in school, I made a watch image that I like a lot and put a lot of effort into, but this one trumps it, therefore this one stays, and the other must go.

These images were really fun to make, because I do not work with male models as much, so it becomes more challenging for me in the sense of posing, and things that look natural.

Let me know what you think!

ASAD 2022

The year 2022 was filled with so many highs, and some very low, lows. 2022 brought travel, and weddings, animal snuggles. new friends, and family get togethers. Although some unexpected, I’m grateful to have seen them. 2022 also brought me lots of laughter, and new opportunities for growth in myself, and my art.

As some of you know, the year 2022 started out rough for me. New Years day, I was on a plane heading to my grandpa’s funeral. Although the circumstances were not ideal, I enjoyed seeing family that I have not seen in many years. I loved playing games and reminiscing with them about their childhoods and mine. My grandma is my only remaining grandparent, and I will forever cherish our conversations from this week. I am thankful that she sees me as someone she could talk to, and help her through her grief.

With the United States opening back up from covid, this brought on more travel. Not long after we got home from being in Ohio, my parents came to see me. I also traveled back to Ohio two other times this year. I flew in for my life long best friend’s bridal shower and bachelorette weekend, and then again for her wedding. I also traveled to New York City. I have been there five times, and I do not think I will ever stop being surprised by its beauty and culture.

Everyone that has ever met me knows that I have a love of animals, my favorite being a horse. Growing up in a suburb of Cleveland, its definitely not a typical favorite animal. My bedroom growing up was always covered in horse statues, pictures, toys, etc. After the loss of Molly, I decided it was time to become formally trained. This year, I started my journey towards horsemanship, and hopefully lead to hunter jumper. Bailey was the first horse I felt a bond with at The Equestrian Center. She was very patient with me and helped me through the beginning challenges. The center lost Bailey unexpectedly, and it broke my heart. After riding a few horses, who were all wonderful I found Brigand. I typically use the the phrase “he's a dream” when I talk about him. He pushes me to be better, work harder, and also to expect the unexpected. I am truly grateful for my trainer and friend, Janet, and the entire equestrian center. This is the first time in my life, I have had friends that are also horse people.

I always talk about the things I wish I could improve in the future of my videos. In the past, it was about video organization. I fixed this problem by creating folders per month and adding them at the end of every month, then going and creating that months section of the video. This has helped me a great deal and I definitely will continue it in the future. I was underwhelmed with some of my phones camera quality, but I upgraded my phone so I hope that will improve future videos. Something I really want to improve on will definitely be the blog writing itself. I struggle with writing out the synapsis of my year, and even my art.

I hope you enjoy 2022’s a second a day video, and I can not wait to hear what you think! The link is below, and please do not forget to look for 2023 in the future!

I have four more blog posts, saved in my drafts and I am working to get them to you soon.

2021 ASAD Video

Wow. I cannot believe its has been a full year already. 2021 was a year full of loss and heartache. 2021 also brought some amazing memories and an abundance of laughter with some of my closest friends, animal snuggles, a little bit more travel Than last year, and of course, good food that I love to showcase throughout my videos. I always like to explain the things I did well, and the things I wish to improve in the next year.

Due to the world events, I kept my social circle small this year as well as the previous. Which was nice because I got to spend another year surrounded by only my closest circle of friends, who are also family. With them, I got to have many mini adventures such as county fairs, dinner dates, beach trips at all hours of the day, and I even got to help participate in bringing a hometown best friend in to the city to surprise one of my besties for her birthday!

Unfortunately, with the good comes the not so good. We lost some very special animals, and I lost my grandfather at the end of the year. Molly, the Hunters’ horse, was the first one this year. If you know me personally, you’d know that horses are my favorite animal, I absolutely adored Molly. The last time I saw her, before I went down I bought an entire bag on mints. Mints were her favorite treat and though it meant she’d have to let me get on her back for an hour or so a day she gladly accepted. If you were not fast enough though, shed dig through your pockets herself. The next was the Hunters' dog buster, who I think only Chris was fond of, he was known for getting into messes, the stinkier the better. Last but certainly not least, after a long year filled with family stresses and struggles, we suddenly lost my grandpa to the flu and pneumonia. I am grateful for him and the time we got o share. If my family had to choose one thing to say about him, I think it would be that he made life interesting, just not always in the best ways.I am grateful for the two voicemails on my phone from him, especially since I don’t have anything from my other passed grandparents. It’s been about a month and it still doesn’t quite feel real.

I am very excited to be traveling again, Although I am still doing way less traveling because of the pandemic, I did fly to Denver this year, and I had to make in back to Ohio at the end of the year. Denver was fun, I ate lots of good food, went to lots of museums, and of course did a little bit of hiking. My trip back to Ohio was a little bit more stressful. The plan was to fly back to my parents house in South Carolina and then drive to Ohio from there for my grandpas funeral. Then things got a little bit more stressful when I went to check in for my flight, and saw that it was cancelled four hours before I had to be at the airport. Naturally the airline booked me on another flight instead. Since it was just about midnight on New Years eve, and my flight left in the morning I had to wake up my parents to see what they thought was my best option. Long story short, I ended up buying day of plane tickets on New Years day. Luckily in the end, I made it to Ohio and the service was wonderful. It also let me see my family some of which I have not seen since I was in middle school.

Even though i’m not posting as much, I’m still working as you can see in my video, and I am so excited to show you what I have coming. There will be a wedding blog, and at least five product shots coming your way soon.People have also been asking me about showing my before and afters for some of my images because sometimes I really change a lot of things. I think this is a really fun idea because it helps show off one of my strengths, photoshop. I am just unhappy with my coding options for it with my website. I may try it a different way and let you decide if its readable, or if you like it.

There are a lot of things that I consider to be strengths and improvemnets this year. I chose to change the background track from the up beat and tropical tunes that i typically use, because of my losses this year especially near the end, it didn’t feel right. So in the end I swapped out the ukulele and switch it for a nice, still happy just more subdued piano and strings track. I think I also improved my editing and workflow this year, so hopefully I can just keep building onto it. If you want to see my workflow progress, feel free to check back and look at my previous blogs that are down at the bottom of this post. MY workflow consists of a yearly folder. Within that folder I have twelve folders with the month names. This year I added number of days as well as a color system so know when I have put all my videos per month in them through out the year. This is helpful to me because I am a little bit sporatic with my video uploading.

Ofcourse, if i’m going to talk about my strengths, I need to talk about the details i’d like to improve in the next year. I do this video project as a look back through my year like a scrap book, but also a way to stay learning and focused. I would have to say that writing about myself, and my process is one of my biggest on my list of “needs improvement"“ Im just really not good at it, but im trying to better to get out of my own head to improve it. Also, I would say I wish my video was all horizontal frames, although I have much less in this one than my previous, I still have room to improve there.

My 2021 video is here, and below are links my other videos.

ASAD July Sneak Peak

I always talk about the month I had when I post my monthly sneak peak, but I never really criticize or talk about my learning process. Which I think is a very big part of the videos themselves. With that being said, I want to share with you something I have learned during this video process, and my own solution to go forward with for next years video.

If there was one thing I would have done differently for this project, it would be better organization. When I started this project, I never really thought about the process of organization I was going to need to successfully and easily make this project run smoothly. Well, let me tell you how important organization is with this project now that I am a little more than half way done,

The biggest way I could have stayed better organized would have been by putting these videos in sub-folders based on months and put each month in one folder. Right now, I have all the videos in one folder, and now that there are over 100 videos in this one folder, with more added more daily, When I sit down to edit, I am constantly searching though the entire media library consisting of all the videos from this year so far. This causes me to edit slower, and take more time looking for certain videos, rather than having all the videos right there per month. At least I know how to make this project run smoother next year, since I have decided to make this a very permanent ongoing project.

Below are links the the other A Second A Day Sneak Peak videos and the blogs to go with them just incase you ever miss one, or want to rewatch/reread them, they are all right here. Underneath these links, is July’s sneak peak. Enjoy!

ASAD June Sneak Peak

WOW! June flew by way too fast. I barely had time to edit my video through out June! Between my friends going away party, my birthday, my best friend coming to visit, and Chris’s birthday, It’s safe to say June was one of the best months I ever had. This was a significant birthday for me, and i’m thankful for all my loved ones that helped to celebrate it with me. My 25th birthday was definitely one of my top birthdays maybe even the very best one.

Thank you to all my loyal followers that have been asking me about the videos. As always, I linked all my blogs to the previous months below in order. Feel free to check them out!

Cleanup The Beaches!

A few weeks back I blogged about moving to a new area called Destin, Florida. (link to this blog at the bottom.) Since I have been here I have been working really hard at building connections, and making friendships. Through these connections, I met a really genuine and good friend.

As Some of you already know, I have been working with an organization in the area. That organization is called Coastal Community Cleanup. Coastal Community Cleanup is a non profit organization that was founded by one of my good friends, Megan Betancourt.

Coastal Community Cleanup is an organization that sets out to do just what if says. Clean up the beaches! Every few weeks the CCC team picks a beach in the area to clean up. Its typically scheduled as a two hour event. When you arrive, you are provided with resuable gloves or tongs, and a burlap bag to collect trash that you find in the sand or in the water. At the end of scheduled cleanup, you come back and sort what you found out into trash, recyliables, etc. Then the CCC team takes care of depositing the trash to the right centers. For this event, the CCC team helped out a Target volunteer event that was great fun and a big success! The cleanup happened at a small beach access called Norriego Point. The total amount of trash collected and removed weighed about 40 pounds! It was really great to see all the teamwork and hard work from my fellow friends and coworkers! (link to their website below if you want to help out and see upcoming events!)

Below are a few of the images I took during the Cleanup. Enjoy!

One Year in Florida!

Hey everyone! As the title of this blog post says, on this day last year, I moved to Florida. Wow! Time goes by way too quickly. As I was thinking about this, I realized I never posted a blog to tell everyone that didn't already know I moved, that I moved! Let mr explain why we left Michigan, and chose Florida in the first place.

I have a lot to catch you up on! First things first, I moved out of Michigan almost a year ago. I ended up in the Florida panhandle in a city called Destin Florida, right along the gulf coast in that small part of Florida that has the different time zone. In the last year, i’ve been settling in and getting to know the area. I also bought my first car, celebrated Chris and I's 3 year anniversary, celebrated my 24th birthday, Chris’s 26th birthday, survived my very first hurricane, traveled to many cities, (Atlanta, New Orleans, Pensacola, Pittsburgh, Ripley, Van Wert, etc.) but I have also been shooting lots of new work, networking, and brainstorming. As some of you may know, I even started to better my video skills. (link to my video project blog below)

One of the most common questions we got while fulfilling our moving process, was simply why did we decide to move. Well the truth is we had many reasons why we wanted to move. Firstly, we wanted to explore a new area. The town we were living in was called Midland, Michigan. Midland is a nice area, but it was really small. I think the main reason we stayed for so long was because Chris’s college was based out of Midland, and because I was so sick the previous year. (Check out the blog post an overdue life update for more information. blog link at the bottom.). Secondly, we decided to leave to help me branch out in a new area and find an area with more fashion photography opportunities. As you can imagine, living in a small town only consisting of family run retail portrait studios was not the best job environment for me. Although I was still abled to make some pretty great connections, we felt it was time to move on. So as soon as Chris was abled to get into all online classes, we started talking about what we wanted in the next place we lived. So we made a list and as part of our criteria, we wanted warmth, fun, and job opportunities. We first decided on Tampa. So Chris moved down first in January to apartment hunt for us starting in Tampa, but we didn’t see anything we could see ourselves in. Luckily we have a friend who was looking for a new roommate in the Destin area so Chris went up to visit , and I came down in March.

I can’t wait to show you all my new work that will be coming up on the website soon. but for now, im going to show you some of my candids, personal milestones, and a few trip images that I have taken this past year to show you around my new area the only way I know how to. I hope you enjoy them!

Exciting Projects in the Work / ASAD January Sneak Peak

I have quite a few new and exciting things planned for you this year!

The project I want to tell you about today is called A Second A Day. It’s a video project which is pretty self explanatory, but I am filming a second (or two) a day of my life. I decided to do this to help me get motivated to think differently on a daily basis, and not just while on set doing a photoshoot. Another reason I chose to do this project is so I can better my video editing skills. Many photographers this day and age shoot video and still photographs, as most of you know I have done a few videos here and there, but this I hope will help me really learn a lot more techniques and also to better myself in the job market.

Every few weeks (probably once a month I’ll show little sneak peaks of my project so far. These sneak peaks will be about 8-10 second videos of my favorite moments captured per month! i’m really excited to show you all and see how it turns out at the end of the year!

Don’t worry i’m still shooting and working hard to show you my next photo project, so be on the lookout for those too! without further ado, here is my some of my favorite January moments!

Michigan Fashion Photography

About two weeks ago, I posted a blog titled "First Michigan Fashion Shoot". In that blog I described a little bit of what brought on this set of images with this amazing woman that I am lucky to call a friend. The other week I finished the images from the extensive fashion photoshoot I did with my friend, Kelli.

Incase you missed the last blog, what we are trying to achieve is a new branding for Kelli. These images and others to come will be used on her instagram and social media accounts to rebuild her brand and self image for future business opportunities. These images are two more outfit changes we had go the many options we discussed and planned.  We are currently in the process of creating a new concept for the next shoot that im very excited about! Some of you might have already seen them on my updated website within the last week, but they had yet to be blogged.

As always, I would also like to send out a special thank you to my boyfriend, Chris for learning how to be an assistant to the photographer by moving around the lights and equipment, and even learning how to use and set up all the equpitment to be the best help he could.

Out of courtesy for Kelli, I waited to post the rest of the images until I was sure she had received them. So I hope it was as worth the wait for you as it was for her. Enjoy!

First Michigan Fashion Shoot

Back in October, I had my first chance to do a fashion shoot in Michigan. This very inspirational woman has become a friend of mine these last few years and it was an honor to work with her while she has so many other projects going on as well. We are currently in the process of rebranding her, so there will be many planned shoots to come that im very excited about! Even though some of you might have already seen them on my updated website, they have yet to be blogged.

I would also like to send out a special thank you to my boyfriend, Chris for learning how to be an assistant to the photographer by moving around the lights and equipment, and even learning how to use and set up all the equpitment to be the best help he could.

So without further ado, here are some images from our first shoot. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them!

An Overdue Life Update

As many of you know, I moved to Michigan after I graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh to be closer to my family to save up some money to travel, and move to a big city. (I always thought I would move to LA first, but lately I've been liking the idea of NYC.)

Anyway, I kept this pretty quiet last year, the ones closest to me knew about it but that's about it. Last year I got pretty sick a lot of chain reaction things that left me ill and un-able to function in a productive manner for about a year. In fact the entire reason I am making this post is because I saw one of those Facebook memories from last year when I was a walking EKG and one of the only images that I publicly shared from that year in which you could actually see the heart monitor attached to me. Those constant set of issues set me back on my plans for moving on with my life quite a bit. I'd like to say a special thank you to my boyfriend, family and friends who stood by me and helped me by keeping all my nerves away. They all helped me by listening to my complaints and spent their entire year putting my health and well-being before their own.

I am FINALLY starting to photograph again which is an amazing feeling. I have also gone through and re-edited my entire portfolio and website just to give me that fresh "new start" feeling. Over the next few months I plan on getting my blog schedule especially back on an every other week basis. I'd also like to extend another thank you to my boyfriend, as well as all my friends and family that helped me get back on my feet. They really help push me back to work even when I'm scared of failure and full of self-doubt. This thank you also includes my great uncle Fred who passed this week, because without you I would not have seen my cousins this weekend who have given me that extra boost of confidence to continue on with my dreams. So, thank you for everything you all have done for me.

I would also like to extend a large thank you to the people that regularly follow this blog and didn't give up on me even though I took such a long time off from blogging. I was touched to see how many people missed reading what I shared.  Your loyalty means so much to me!

Also, because this is a photography blog, and I did mention one image in particular, I will share some of the moments from last year that either I or my boyfriend captured of me (on the good days) while I was ill. The first image with the little kitten from last Thanksgiving at my grandparents is the one that was previously mentioned.
